Cases of Interest
Pain Pump Litigation
I am now investigating a case involving a pain pump. An athlete
suffered a shoulder injury on the playing field and needed shoulder
surgery. For post operative pain the athlete was provided with a
pain pump that delivered pain medication directly to the surgical
site. It turns out that in October 2007 there was an article by Dr.
Hansen, Post- Arthroscopic Glenohumeral Chondrolysis (PAGCL),
published in the American Journal of Sports Medicine in which Dr.
Hansen concluded that the use of intra-articular pain pump catheters
filled with bupivacaine and epinephrine appear highly associated
with postarthroscopic glenohumeral chondrolysis and warned against
the continued use of pain pump catheters. Essentially the constant
infusion of the pain medication for a few days after surgery
"eats away" at the cartilage, which will cause a life long
problem. This athlete now will need a future shoulder replacement
surgery due to a painful shoulder that grinds and pops.
There are a number of companies that manufactured these pain
pumps, including these pain pump companies, that sell these medical
devices commonly associated with the development of PAGCL:
There is no MDL on these cases, each will be individually
prosecuted. If you have been seriously injured from a pain pump and need an attorney for a case in the
