Hydroxycut Recall

The FDA urged consumers to cease using Hydroxycut after it received reports from nearly 30 users complaining of severe liver problems such as jaundice and liver damage.  These reports include serious health problems including potential liver injury, to liver damage requiring liver transplants. One death due to liver failure has been reported to FDA. Other health problems reported include seizures; cardiovascular disorders; and rhabdomyolysis, a type of muscle damage that can lead to other serious health problems such as kidney failure.

Three days after the initial recall, a class action law suit was filed in Canada alleging that Lovate (makers of Hydroxycut) did not properly warn consumers about the drug’s safety.  The suit being filed claims damages for losses suffered by consumers of Hydroxycut products as a result of the Defendants' false, misleading and/or deceptive representations on the product labels.

There have also been isolated complaints throughout the U.S. and Canada linking the supplement to heart problems and elevated blood pressure, although the FDA did not specifically note those ailments in its warning.
