Fleet Phospho Soda is a popular brand of over-the-counter laxative that has been shown to cause acute phosphate nephropathy, a form of kidney disease. This serious condition occurs when deposits of calciumphosphate crystals build up in the renal tubules, causing permanent impairment of renal functioning.
